WHISTLER GOLD - $40

This tour heads to Cypress and Whistler for all the outdoor venues.  Events featured on this tour are Freestyle, Nordic, and Cross Country Skiing; Snowboarding; Ski Jumping; Bobsled; Luge; and Skeleton.  Great for students from Switzerland and Germany plus all Olympic enthusiasts!

Tour Overview

 

This is a great and affordable way to get a first hand look at the heart of the Vancouver Winter Olympics!  Everything from the Olympic Village to the Richmond Olympic Oval.  As we tour around the Vancouver area we’ll make stops at key Olympic Venues with a chance for participants to get out and take some photos.  Your Cool Canadian Guide will give you lots of Olympic Trivia while highlighting some of the medalists at each venue. 

 

Every country has its Olympic Heroes and now you can follow in their footsteps and see where they lived and competed!

 

 

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

 

-          BC PLACE  - This is where Opening and Closing Ceremonies took place.  Plus, every night there was a Victory Ceremony for Olympians who had won medals. 

 

-          CANADA HOCKEY PLACE – This is where the drama of the Ice Hockey games took place.

 

-          RICHMOND OLYMPIC OVAL – Speed skating took place here and many Korean medals were won right in this building!

 

-          PACIFIC COLISEUM – Figure skating and Short Track Speed Skating were the highlights of this building, once the home of the Vancouver Canucks. 

 

-          UBC THUNDERBIRD ARENA – More hockey drama out at the University of British Columbia!

TOUR ITINERARY (sample)

     

9:15 am  - Our pick up area is across the street from the front doors of Waterfront Station at the corner of Cordova and Seymour Streets.

 

9:30 am -  Departure.  The bus can’t wait for you if you are late so arrive early and avoid the last minute panic. 

 

Your VANCOUVER GOLD Tour starts right away as your Guide throws out trivia and interesting tidbits and we drive by the sight of the outdoor Olympic Flame.  

 

Õ    Stop 1 – Canada Hockey Place / Athletes Village / BC Place 

Õ    Stop 2 – UBC Thunderbird Arena

Õ    Stop 3 – Richmond Olympic Oval

Tour Overview

 

This is a great and affordable way to get a first hand look at the heart of the Whistler Winter Olympics!  Everything from Cypress Mountain to the Whistler Sliding Centre to the Whistler Medals Plaza.  As we tour head north our first stop is Cypress Mountain where, not only do you get to see the ski area, but we also stop at a fantastic viewpoint out over Howe Sound and Vancouver Island in the distance. 

 

This tour includes many of the stops found on our Whistler & The Sea to Sky Experience Tour but with a heavy emphasis on Olympic sites. 

 

When we arrive in the Whistler area we will take you to all the Olympic sites and venues with a chance for participants to get out and take some photos.  Your Cool Canadian Guide will give you lots of Olympic Trivia while highlighting some of the medalists at each venue.

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

 

-          CYPRESS MOUNTAIN  - This is where the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding events took place.  Made famous by it’s fog, rain, and lack of snow; Cypress still became a favourite locale.

 

-          WHISTLER CREEKSIDE – This is where the drama of the Alpine Ski events took place.

 

-          WHISTLER OLYMPIC PARK – All the “endurance” events took place here including the Cross Country skiing and Biathlon.  Plus, this is where the Ski Jumping was held.

 

-          WHISTLER SLIDING CENTRE – It got off to a tragic start with the death of a Georgian Olympian during training however the Sliding Centre also hosted many glorious moments in Bobsled, Luge, and Skeleton events.   

 

-          WHISTLER MEDALS PLAZA – Every night there was a Victory Ceremony for Olympians who had won medals.  This was also the heart of “party central”!

 

-          SEA TO SKY HIGHWAY.  Sit back and enjoy this scenic tour on one of the most beautiful highways in the Lower Mainland.  Breathtaking views of Howe Sound dotted with the inner Gulf Islands.

 

-          SHANNON FALLS – A beautiful waterfall cascading down the mountainside in Squamish – higher than Niagara!

 

-          TANTALUS MOUNTAIN RANGE – Stop at a viewpoint to see this small but spectacular mountain range towering above Howe Sound.  Plus, this is a great place for Spectacular Sunsets later in the early spring or later in the summer!

       

-          BRANDYWINE FALLS – A short walk to a dramatic lookout of these thundering falls. 

 

-          WHISTLER VILLAGE – Enjoy a guided orientation walking tour of this beautiful mountain village before heading out on your own to explore.

 

-          WILDLIFE VIEWING – Keep your eyes peeled as wildlife is often spotted on the Sea to Sky Highway and from the Gondola in Whistler!

 

-          PEAK TO PEAK GONDOLA IN WHISTLER – This is one of the favourite optional activities as you soar above the valley floor from Whistler Mountain to Blackcomb Mountain in the worlds longest and highest lift!

TOUR ITINERARY (sample)

     

7:15 am  - Our pick up area is across the street from the front doors of Waterfront Station at the corner of Cordova and Seymour Streets.

 

7:30 am -  Departure.  The bus can’t wait for you if you are late so arrive early and avoid the last minute panic. 

 

Your Whistler Olympic Gold Tour starts as you leave Vancouver with your Guide giving you trivia and facts about the 2010 Winter Olympics. 

 

Our first stop is Cypress Mountain and a great viewpoint. 

 

From there we head along the shores of Howe Sound on the scenic Sea-to-Sky highway.  Our next stop is at Britannia Beach.  Here you can get some great views of Howe Sound, stretch your legs, or grab a coffee. 

 

Another 15 minutes along the coast comes cascading Shannon Falls where you have a chance to walk to the base of the falls and get some great photos. 

 

Amazing new scenery awaits you as you cross every hill and round every curve in the highway! 

 

10:45 – Stop at Whistler Creekside, site of the Alpine Skiing events.

 

11:15  - Arrive in Whistler Village.

 

Join your guide for an orientation walking tour of Whistler Village including the Whistler Medals Plaza.  For those that would prefer to spend the day in Whistler, your Guide will take you to the Adventure Activity Center where you can choose from a variety of optional activities or head out to explore on your own.  For those that want a closer look at the Olympic Venues, we return to the bus to continue the Whistler Gold Tour.  Stops include The Whistler Sliding Centre and Whistler Olympic Park.

 

After these stops you have free time in Whistler to ride the gondola, go for a hike, or explore some of the hundreds of shops and boutiques.

 

4:00 pm – Join us at Tapley’s Neighbourhood Pub for some light liquid refreshments and yummy appetizers before we head back to Vancouver.  Meet Whistlerites at the Pub known as “the locals living room”.

 

5:30 pm – Depart Whistler Village

 

On the way back to Vancouver our first stop is at Brandywine Falls where a short walk takes you to a viewpoint over this spectacular falls.  Our final stop is at the Tantalus Range viewpoint overlooking Howe Sound and the Tantalus Mountains. 

 

8:30 pm – Arrive back in Vancouver
